I should have added to my first post that we have both here.   Roll Eyes

Our first kennel has a concrete base which was laid by a professional builder about 6 years ago.  It is dug in, lined, supported, meshed etc etc.

Our 2nd kennel sits on slabs, laid by a handy man and his accomplice, both sloping to assist drainage.

The concrete has deteriorated over time with small stones coming loose with the pressure washer and cracks appearing.

The slabs have been down for 3 years and are still immaculate, they come up perfectly with the pressure washer and look and smell cleaner than the concrete.

If we moved house tomorrow it would be slab that were going down in the new run.

My dogs only ever dig in the forest, although I might nip up to Catherine's and let them have a go in her kitchen...  Wink

Yes....both slabs and concrete are better than vinyl flooring or plasterboard walls.......  Roll Eyes

I prefer my slab area to my concrete area - the concrete is rough and never seems clean because it collects bits of poo. The slabs come up very nicely. Water also drains much better off the slabs because it can get down between the cracks, whereas on the concrete it has to wash right across and find somewhere at the edge to soak away.

If you move, you can also take the slabs with you........

Hi Brian, I used cartmore building supply in Lochgelly. In the price meant to say you pay for the bags the type 1 and sand come in but it still worked out cheaper than any of the other building companies. And they deliver to your door if you have access to an area close to were you want it they will drop it right there. Also Brian i bought a little trolley called store and go. I put 3 to 4 slabs on it and pulled it to were i wanted them really saved the back. Cost about £20 from homebase.

Actually we do something slightly different we use a mix of slabs and gravel as per Peter's suggestion.  Slabs v easy but the gravel does give the diggers something to do and is alot prettier.   Also we find that we have to relay slabs every so often as try as we might we get some subsidence due to creative digging.  Don't ask me how they manage it.  The slabs and gravel options works best for us.  So for gravel we use a layer of weed retardant, mesh and then gravel on top.  Tried other permutations and it has involved alot of swearing and revamping!
