Asha has a permanent cough, I dont know if that is what it is, vets did tests, say she has to be on steroid for life, or benilin or cough.

Steroids make her food aggressive, benilin doesent work so she coughs.   Sad

found out there are others with the same thing.

She is better when she is worked regularly but it is hard for her to work when she is coughing.

barbara have you tried childrens tixylix. Its worked brilliantly with small animals ive had with coughs, not tried it with dogs. Huh

Orrrr Grapefruit seed extract in water. Its a natural remedy great for fighting breathing problems (esp R.I.) but it may be worth a try? You have to use it gradually a couple of drops and build it up as its sour tasting.

Hi Kelly

Sadly we have three dogs that suffer from this so give me a call anytime, but Amanda Leask is the most knowledgable person i know on this as her boy suffered really badly.

PS, forgot to add, all three are related and we have managed to sort of control it.  Reiger is Hugh's lead dog and it hasn't caused him too much of a problem. Taggart isn't too bad but Naska suffers the most.

Hi Kelly

we have two with this, from the same breeder, but not at all related which makes me wonder if it was environment enduced as puppies  Huh  I think it may be more common than people realise. Ours don't work at all now, as the slightest exertion seems to have them coughing and sneezing. Dust makes it worse, and they are also bad when they are moulting.

We have used steroids in the past to control it, but after seeing what they did to a friends dog we stopped as the 'cure' seemed worse than the condition.

Wonder if we are thinking about the same friend here Louise.

I was just thinking about  a couple we know who's boy had it all his life and was on Steriods, he was in the end on a high dosage of them.

hi,
thanks to everyone who has replied with info and support  Wink

we are back at the vets tonight to discuss what to do next as he has not been diagnosed with EB as of yet and to see if he is responding to the treatment we are currently trying.

i am not convinced that his current condition is not a direct result of kennel cough he picked up a FEW MONTHS ago at a rally

A BIG THANKS TO WHOEVER THAT WAS WHO WENT TO THE RALLY WITH KENNEL COUGH!!!  Angry  Angry

Hi Kelly,
Give Sue Sercombe a call. If I remember rightly, Oliver, one of her boys ended up with an asthma type lung condition after having had kennel cough as a youngster. She might be able to give you a pointer on the medication he was on.

Hi Kelly,
would have to agree with Judy, you should contact Amanda on this if it is EB that is diagnosed, her boy Odin has been ill for along time and she knows a lot about this illness and the treatments.

it was north, he must have picked it up very end of feb/early march.

he seems to be responding to the latest treatment  Smiley so fingers crossed he has not got EB and "only" a nasty secondary infection as a result of the KC
