Whenever you feel that he is there, just around the corner, that's because he is. It's his spirit whose presence you can feel, even though you can't physically see him.
I know this to be true of dogs with which you have had a special bond.

Im so so sorry for you loss. From you post I can tell he was truly special to you. He was an absolute stunner.
